Lullaby - T01183299331

Set in the depths of an anonymous hospital, ‘Lullaby’ is a piece of extreme physical theatre that features strong text, visual projections and imaginative use of camera techniques. Based largely on observations of hospitals and the fascinating intensity of human relations in this setting, Lullaby offers a witty insight into our relationship with health and sickness in a production that is sometimes violent, frequently moving and completely engaging. Five performers - Leon Baugh, Luke Burrough, Mafalda Deville, Kath Duggan, Jasmin Vardimon - take multiple roles in seven stories that happen simultaneously onstage. The stories highlight political issues surrounding the body such as violence, gender and hierarchy. In a lecture given by a male nurse, the body, both metaphorically and literally, becomes the site for an aggressive duel; behind the pristine façade of a sterilised room a doctor is blatant about his desire for his patient; while she manages to escape his wandering hands the audience experiences the whole sordid event through the eyes of the aggressor using clever camera techniques. While doctors and nurses flirt and fight with each other, ‘Lullaby’ eloquently displays Vardimon’s trademark dark humour, incisive character studies, innovative use of interactive video projections and beautifully detailed movement vocabulary.Performer Leon Baugh.
