Cheap Lecture & The Cow Piece - T01927296365

In Cheap Lecture and The Cow Piece (2009) Jonathan Burrows and Matteo Fargion borrow the structure of John Cage's Lecture On Nothing to create a homage to and questioning of a way of thinking that has underpinned so much dance and performance in the last 30 years; the hour long event begins with a philosophical exposition of the two artists' work and ends in a chaotic and humourous meditation on death.

One Flute Note & Body Not Fit For Purpose - T2130747221

Choreographer Jonathan Burrows and composer Matteo Fargion have been invited around the world with their unique brand of humour and intellectual rigour, radiating delight even as they make the audience think. Collaborators for 25 years, the two artists clash the formality of classical music composition with an open and often anarchic approach to performance, bringing them an international following. In this one hour performance they present two recent pieces. One Flute Note is a meditation on memory and music, which generates accumulating worlds of sound and action out of a single event. Body Not Fit For Purpose is their first overtly political work, commissioned by the 2014 Venice Biennale and taking as its starting point the uselessness of dancing to express anything of any real concern and at the same time the inherent, gloriously foolish radicality of the attempt. Running time: 1hr (no interval)

Counting To One Hundred - T0131630968

One Flute Note - T084847125

Jonathan Burrows and Matteo Fargion describe what they do as 'handmade and human-scale'. They build with simple, non-spectacular elements but arrive often at a deceptive virtuosity, radiating delight even as it makes the audience think. One Flute Note is their most recent work.
