Koichi Tamano performs My Soul Shaken by a Little God Dwelling in My Spirit whose devotion to the mastery of dance is expressed through works that are at once beautiful, graceful, shocking and grotesque. Tamano studied under butoh-founder Tatsumi Hijikata, for 10 years, who christened him his "bow-legged Ninjinsky”. At Hijikata’s studios Tamano was influenced by some of Japan's most avant garde artists including Japan's famed author, Yukio Mishima, who considered him to have the most perfect body of all the dancers in Hijikata's studio, as well as visual artist Tandanori Yokoo, composer Toru Takemitsu. In 1972 Tamano founded the Harupin-Ha Butoh Dance Company in Tokyo, creating a new base for the company in California in 1979 and now tours the world with his own work in the Butoh spirit.
