La La La Human Steps owe their international reputation and numerous awards to the unique choreographic language developed and constantly reinvented by company founder and artistic director, Edouard Lock. Altered structures of ballet within a complex amalgamation of choreography, music and film are the main ingredients of the Lock style. Salt - Set at a frenetic pace that never lets up, Salt is a cascading series of lyrical and intense pas de deux, choreographic phrases and sequences unfolding at the speed of thought, stimulating the senses and confounding perception. Punctuated by projected images evoking the passage of time from infancy to adolescence, four male and six female dancers distance themselves from the ground on point, "keeping their hold on this world as tenuous as that of souls', in Lock's words. Salt made its world premiere in Japan in 1997 at the Saitama Arts Theater which as welcomed some of the most prestigious contemporary dance companies including Pina Bausch Tanztheater Wuppertal and Ballett Frankfurt. The work was hailed as a 'major achievement' by the Japan Times.

User Review: 11Jan01: The work certainly offers little in the way of choreographic variety. The five women and four men (dressed in basic black) kick, spin and squirm their way through a numbing succession of arbitrary and vacuous couplings. Despite all the strong technique, we are left with one conclusion: the only goal of Salt is exhaustion for them, and for us.

User Review: 11Jan01: The dancers stamina and cohesion are admirable from start to finish, but that doesn t prevent the creeping boredom.
