Out of Context - T1964481762

In his latest work Out of Context, Platel continues this investigation, starting with the notion that the word ‘choreography’ is derived from ‘chorea’; a medical term referring to a disorder of the nervous system, the symptoms of which are sudden, rapid, uncontrolled and hysteric movements of the body. In contrast to the elaborate stage designs of recent works vsprs and pitié!, this intimate and intense piece is performed by nine dancers on an empty stage. Using only basic lighting and a soundtrack that will grow from the creative process, the absolute focus is given to the movement of the dancers and their relationship with the audience as the behavioural codes of both performer and spectator become intimately entwined.Choreographer Alain Platel.

Primero - T1676660999

Argentinean dancer and choreographer Lisi Estaras has worked with les ballets C de la B for 12 years. Here she makes her UK choreographic debut with primero - a brand new work inspired by her own attempts to recall her childhood years. This intimate work mixes dance and text as the personal experiences of five performers are interweaved with children's stories. Intrigued by the way a child's mind can naturally jump from one thought to another, unpredictable and seemingly without logic, Estaras will attempt to translate this state into movement.Producer Theatre National de Chaillot (Paris). Koaen Augustijnen - T2090020020

Les ballets C de la B return to Southbank Centre with their new creation Ashes. This piece looks at how people deal with mortality and what they are ready to do (or not) in order to keep hold of all that they have attained. It is about the duality of life and the battle between holding on to something, and the art and difficulty of letting go. Dancer and choreographer Koen Augustijnen collaborates with the composer Wim Selles, who has arranged music by Handel for the work. The evening also includes live performance by alto Steve Dugardin, in a duet with soprano Irene Carpentier, and five musicians.

VSPRS - T267219383

After the success of Wolf (the one with 14 dogs) in September 2004, Platel returns with his latest creation. A reinvention of Claudio Monteverdi's Maria Vespers, vsprs is a truly unique concoction of dance, theatre and music. For vsprs, he was inspired by the idea of improvisation and 'jamming'. What would happen if today's musicians were allowed to take Monteverdi's devotional music and improvise on it? Bringing together jazz, baroque and gypsy components, he does just that.Choreographer Alain Platel. Design Peter De Blieck. Performer Quan Bui Ngoc. Performer Emile Josse. Performer Melanie Lomoff. Rien de Rien - T1106725369

Returning to London after its sell-out debut in February, 'Rien de Rien' plays with cliches and prejudices, with text and context, with true and false. Who may say what? Who may do what? Every movement becomes sacred or sacriligious an inescapable environment where banal movements and stories suddenly evolve into unintentional dance. Absurd situations turn out to be painfully real. Everyone fights against interpretation without ever knowing what others make of it. Regret for what you have not become? Desire to be someone else? The difference shows itself most clearly in perfect unison. What remains is every person's unique path. Virtuoso cellist Roel Dieltiens, a 58 year old ex-prima ballerina, a funky 15 year old girl, a Canadian/Jamaican story-teller, a Slovenian Christ-figure, a fiery schizophrenic, all of them visitors to a mosque. A place to pray to come to oneself or rather to deceive yourself? What do you want to be? What are you allowed to be? By whom? Why? A story, a memory, an image. Non, je ne regrette rien.
