Spanning North and East Africa, dance companies from Tunisia and Kenya are united in this double bill for their London debut, celebrating the continent's rich diversity of performing arts and its vibrant creativity. Award winning Imed Jemaa brings urban dance to the stage in his new piece Rojla. Performed by an athletic and arresting crew the piece evokes the atmosphere of the Maghreb Medinas with striking tales of city life. Kenyan dancer-choreographer, Kebaya Moturi performs his solo, Hisia (Swahili for 'intuition'). Developing his own movement language fusing African and European influences, Moturi’s beautifully meditative work paints the stage with poetic texts, dance and ritualistic movement. East London based artist, Frederick Opoku-Addaie brings his 2006 Place. Prize Final piece, Silence Speaks Volumes to Stratford Circus with a haunting score by Sarah Shanson. A complex and contrasting movement language engages the spectator in a dynamic physical conversation. Kenrick ‘H2O’ Sandy (Boy Blue Entertainment) joins us with his signature style and high energy Hip Hop dance theatre; dynamic and different this piece will take your breath away.
