Images of Dance - T0816759152The perfect ballet evening for all the family: Images of Dance’s talented young dancers, directed by former Royal Ballet principal Margaret Barbieri, serve up three sparkling new ballets, ranging from the elegant classicism of Renato Paroni’s Slavonic Serenade (Dvorak) to the lush splendour of Tchaikovsky’s Souvenir de Florence in American choreographer Dominic Walsh’s first English commission. Christopher Marney (Ballet Boyz, New Adventures) closes this entertaining evening with his glamorously-costumed comedy of manners - a witty ‘take’ on Saint-Saens’ Carnival of the Animals.Director Margaret Barbieri.

Images of Dance - T0712575028The programme: - LES SYLPHIDES - Mikhail Fokine / Chopin (14 dancers, 30 minutes) In honour of the centenary of Diaghilev’s Ballets Russes, who premiered Les Sylphides in their inaugural 1909 Paris season, the programme opens with Fokine’s exquisite homage to the era of the Romantic Ballet, in moonlit white tulle to Chopin’s beautiful music. Originally danced by Anna Pavlova, Les Sylphides was described by Fokine as "the personification of a poetic vision". (Images perform Les Sylphides by permission of The Fokine Trust.) [ interval ] CIEL POMMELÉ -Stephen Sherriff / Poulenc [ 8 dancers, 20 minutes ] A newly-commissioned abstract neo-classical ballet by ex-Royal Ballet dancer and choreographer Stephen Sheriff, set to Poulenc’s Piano Concerto, Ciel Pommelé translates as Mackerel Sky, a mixed weather condition of fleecy clouds on a warm, sunny atmosphere. [ interval ] MAD ABOUT THE BOY - Isira Makuloluwe / 1950s & 1960s songs [ 17 dancers, 45 minutes ] To close the evening on an irresistibly upbeat note, Images of Dance offers an entertainingly knowing take on Grimms’ fairytale of The Twelve Dancing Princesses scripted by Tim Tubbs and choreographed by British Sri-Lankan, European award-winning choreographer (and former London Studio Centre dance graduate) Isira Makuloluwe, who update the story to a 1959 finishing school, where the reluctant debutantes neglect their etiquette to dance the nights away with a teenage pop idol, set to a wittily arranged soundscore of 1950s/1960s pop songs.Choreographer Nic Espinosa. T0253693462An irresistibly entertaining evening of ballet, from the 21 dancers of the ever-popular and dynamic Images of Dance, directed by Margaret Barbieri (former Royal Ballet principal), offers a delicious variety… and a trip through Europe, from the quintessentially English of Britten’s Young Person’s Guide to the Orchestra, (newly choreographed by Matthew Hart) through Don Quixote’s vigorous Russian view of Spanish dancing (staged by ex-Bolshoi star Irek Mukhamedov), to an irreverently wicked Anglo-Saxon take on Paris in the 1930s from Matthew Bourne’s especially revived The Infernal Galop.
