Trois Grandes Fugues - T0744084594Three acclaimed choreographers each create inimitable dance works to the same piece of music, Beethoven's Grande Fugue op. 133. Lucinda Childs' interpretation exemplifies her meticulous precision and cool, complex classicism. Anne Teresa De Keersmaeker responds with an uninhibited, masculine and non-classical vocabulary, whilst Maguy Marin creates an exhilarating whirlwind where life is reduced to a race against death. Trois Grandes Fugues marks a welcome return for the world class dancers of Lyon Opera Ballet who last performed at Sadler's Wells more than a decade ago.

Tricodex - T01971674250Tricodex is a vertical and horizontal trip through the magical, glittering maze of Decouflé’s imagination. Featuring 30 dancers and 150 costumes, Decouflé’s enchanted universe combines tableaux of breathtaking beauty with witty aerial ballets. A dancing bicyclist performs acrobatics 18 feet above the stage, while two ballerinas defy gravity in a bungeejumping duet. Tricodex is inspired by Codex Serafinius, a fanciful encyclopaedia of mythical animals, imaginary plants, hairstyles, playing cards, flying machines and labyrinths. Decouflé brings all this to life, blending the worlds of dance, circus and visual arts.Choreographer Philippe Decoufle. Director Yorgos Loukos. Design Jean Rabasse. Lighting Patrice Besombes. Programme 2 - Bolero/Tabula Rasa/Newark - T0524562547[Ravel]'s Bolero is one of the best-loved pieces of music in the popular imagination. Here the piece is given a dramatic new twist in [Meryl Tankard]'s idiosyncratic choreography. Transparent screens conceal the dancers, an escalating hallucinogenic frenzy of silhouette and projected images reflecting the growing agitation of the music. [Ohad Naharin]'s Tabula Rasa is a haunting and beautiful exploration of human relationships, danced to [Arvo Part]'s dramatic music. The third piece, [Trisha Brown]'s Newark, focuses on the coming together of masculine strength and power with feminine movement.

The striking choreography has the dancers in full masks, blending spectacular stagecraft with an extraordinary vocabulary of movement, reminiscent of the films of Jan Svankmajer.
