Ravel's Bolero is one of the best-loved pieces of music in the popular imagination. Here the piece is given a dramatic new twist in Meryl Tankard's idiosyncratic choreography. Transparent screens conceal the dancers, an escalating hallucinogenic frenzy of silhouette and projected images reflecting the growing agitation of the music. Ohad Naharin's Tabula Rasa is a haunting and beautiful exploration of human relationships, danced to Arvo Part's dramatic music. The third piece, Trisha Brown's Newark, focuses on the coming together of masculine strength and power with feminine movement.
