Line, Point, Plane
The project brings together an exciting and highly-respected team of collaborators from the world of theatre and dance including directors Annabel Arden and Annie Castledine, choreographer Rosemary Lee and writer Bryony Lavery.
Line: Time: 20-25mins.Set: a rope, rigged so as to create a single vertical line in space. With humour and poignancy the line of a human life unfolds as the performer journeys along the vertical line of the rope. Different ages are conjured up in the air: the softness of a child's movements; the awkwardness of adolescence; the stiffness of old age. The rope supports the performer, a literal 'lifeline': she grips onto it, or is gripped by it, until she reaches its end; until the point where the line of the life, the rope, runs out.
Point: Time:15-20 mins Set: A cloudswing (a rope hung at both ends to form a curved loop). The dead point is the technical name for the still, quiet suspension point at the top of a swing. It is there, at that exact moment, that all the aerial choreography, the twist, turns and drops, must be executed. As the performer swings through space, she speaks: giving a voice to this mute moment.
Plane: Time:15-20 mins Directed by Rosemary Lee The space looks completely bare. There is only the horizontal plane of the floor and the vertical plane of the black backdrop on which the performer is revealed. Using the folds of the fabric, and loops concealed within it, she gradually journeys across the plane, like a lone figure climbing the night sky.
