Ocean is Cunningham's most impressive and audacious work to date. Set in the round, the 14 dancers occupy centre stage, surrounded by the audience who, in turn, are surrounded by an orchestra of over 100 musicians. Two scores by Andrew Culver and David Tudor are played concurrently without a conductor. Digital clocks cue the musicians, with the last note and last dancer disappearing as the final digit flashes.
