Having collaborated with French choreographers Xavier Le Roy and Boris Charmatz, Ingvartsen is part of a generation of dance artists that considers choreography as a tool to think about the world and our relationship to it. The Artificial Nature Project is the latest in a series of four works staging perceptions and sensations of nature, asking the question: What is the relationship between the animate and inanimate world? The outcome is a performance that literally throws things around. Materials fly through the air, giving rise to a landscape that transforms itself. Throughout the performance the view is constantly changing: a calm contemplative site gives way to an energetic chaos of debris projected into space. The emerging choreography is partly performed by humans and partly by materials and objects, as one image is replaced by another, rapidly altering our perception of a glittering landscape.
