Doo - T750120039With spoken word, music mixed live on stage and pure physicality, this intense and emotionally charged piece looks for unity and healing as it questions the personal challenges presented by two different cultures and two different times. Miguel Pereira takes us on a personal journey into his childhood. 'I was born in Maputo, Mozambique, Africa in 1963,' says Pereira. 'I lived there until I was 12. I danced for the first time in school during the period that the country was becoming independent. It was a revolutionary dance against the oppressive power of the Portuguese colonisation.' Miguel Pereira is an acclaimed artist and performer who seeks to question the rules of performance, often choosing to provoke and question existing codes both in the making and presenting of work. On stage with fellow performer Bernardo Fernando, he revisits his African roots, sharing with us a glimpse into a country still at war with its history. | |
