Details

Founded in 2012, and hosted at Sadler's Wells, NYDC is an exciting young company that creates and performs innovative and influential dance, drawing together some of the brightest young talent from across the country. The company has a track record of putting young people on paths to successful dance careers, with over 80% of NYDC dancers going onto further dance studies, in vocational training or working professionally. Running time: 1hr 15mins. Following their sold out debut performance and national tour, National Youth Dance Company returns with a brand new double bill by Guest Artistic Director Akram Khan. Khan is one of the most celebrated and respected dance artists today. In just over a decade he has created a body of work that has contributed significantly to the arts in the UK and abroad. His reputation has been built on the success of imaginative, highly accessible and relevant productions; this new commission sees Khan bring a wealth of experience to his pivotal role in working with this vibrant company of dancers drawn from NYDC workshops across England. NYDC performs a restaged excerpt from Vertical Road (Akram Khan Company, 2010), alongside the world premiere of a new work, The Rashomon Effect, by Khan and assistant choreographer, Andrej Petrovic. This unique pairing of Akram Khan with the raw talent of these young artists provides an insight into the promising future of dance in this country.
