Private Dancer
T0482005753
A life-sized luminous house, 18 eclectic performers and a rare glimpse of a personal world, Private Dancer plays with our expectations and emotions through unique choreography created by some of Scotland's finest disabled dancers. An immersive performance directed by Janice Parker, with artist and MC Richard Layzell, this is a bespoke event that re-invents itself in each location where it appears. A room is a private space in a person's life. Collective access is normally denied. In this show each room is filled with personal memorabilia and objects belonging to a solo disabled dancer, who inhabits and performs there to an audience of one. This intimate performance arena opens a portal to a normally unseen, unknown perspective of a person. The end product plays with our limited and limiting expectations and challenges socially constructed boundaries. The power balance shifts as the audience are invited to cross a threshold literally, metaphorically and emotionally and enter the domain of the dancer.
