Contemporary dance. Richard Alston, Artistic Director of The Place, the UK's leading centre for contemporary dance, is internationally recognised as one of the most influential and inspiring choreographers in British dance.
Brisk Singing is a revival of one of Alston's biggest hits of recent years. This buoyant and uplifting work is carried along by the music of the baroque genius Jean-Philippe Rameau. It is a wash of glorious movement, with limbs flung high nad wide in lunging, soaring space. This is an expansive and beautifully crafted work that is guaranteed to send you away with a smile.
Grey Allegro is driven by the feisty vigour of Domenico Scarlatti's Sonatas for keyboard, played live. It is taut and elegant, matching musical lyricism with choreographic precision.
Overdrive is pulsating choreography, inspired by the resonating push of Terry Riley's Keyboard Studies. As the music creates more complicated rhythms, Overdrive sets the whole company in frenetic motion.
