Richard Alston, Artistic Director of The Place, the UK's leading centre for contemporary dance, is internationally recognised as one of the most influential and inspiring choreographers in British dance. Grey Allegro is driven by the feisty vigour of Domenico Scarlatti's Sonatas for keyboard, played live. It is taut and elegant, matching musical lyricism with choreographic precision. Alston's latest work is dance to the sun-drenched music of Ravel played live. Mediterranean heat is measured with French formality in Ravel's delicate Sonatine and in the gushing fountain jets of his Jeux d'Eau. Also presented is Brisk Singing inspired by some of the most joyous music ever written for dance.
