Contemporary dance. Richard Alston, Artistic Director of The Place, the UK's leading centre for contemporary dance, is internationally recognised as one of the most influential and inspiring choreographers in British dance. Alongside other events in the Focus on Alston festival strand, Dance Umbrella presents Richard Alston Dance Company at its home theatre with a programme of early works and new creations showing off his company’s versatility. This quadruple bill includes a new piece from Alston for the full Company, set to Mozart’s Piano Sonata No.15 played live and Early Days, a collage of extracts from early Alston pieces including Wildlife (1983), Rainbow Ripples (1980), Still Moving Still (1969) and Something To Do (1969). The programme is completed by a rare revival of Robert Cohan’s sextet, In Memory, made for London Contemporary Dance Theatre in 1989, and a new work by Martin Lawrance.
