Contemporary dance. Richard Alston, Artistic Director of The Place, the UK's leading centre for contemporary dance, is internationally recognised as one of the most influential and inspiring choreographers in British dance.
Stampede - Alston's latest creation for his full company of 12, features the exotic, Moorish-influenced sounds of Italian mediaeval music. Rollicking, robust passages of dance intertwine with romantic haunting segments in a work of rich colour and sensuous textures.
Slow Airs Almost All was inspired by Mozart's glorious writing for string trio, which will be played live on stage. The dancers are borne along on the waves of the music, dipping into its ideas and echoing its serenity.
Touch and Go, capturing the spirit of Tango Nuevo as embodied in the masterly music of Astor Piazzolla. This is tango for the 21st century; passionate, sensual and sophisticated.
