Rosetta: Live!

T0
Rosetta: Live! will be the first national festival of the arts in palliative care, celebrating the lives and experiences of those leaving life. The event is directed and produced by Rosetta Life, a unique artist-led organisation that enables those with life threatening illnesses and their families to express and channel their experiences through the arts. There are now fifteen hospices in the Rosetta Life network, giving some two hundred hospice users the opportunity to work with artists-in-residence. The eight day Rosetta: Live! festival at the Riverside Studios will celebrate the work that has been made by hospice users, as well as featuring specially commissioned works by leading international performing and visual artists, such as Mike Figgis, Michael Nyman and Meredith Monk. The artists have been working with Rosetta Life users to create a full programme of events for the Riverside including live performances, a mural, two installations, films, talks and a series of video projections. Key figures in the arts and healthcare will run workshops and master classes during the festival. Rosetta: Live! will also provide a launch-pad for the new digital channel, a narrowcasting web service where content is created by users for users. It will offer hospices, other palliative care centres and the wider medical profession live-streamed programmes of videos, interactive discussion and presentations of palliative care issues led and hosted by hospice users. The digital channel will thus engage the terminally ill and healthcare professionals in a new way, showing the crucial role that liberating and empowering creativity can play at the end of life and, by example, throughout life. Lucinda Jarrett, Founder of Rosetta Life and Creative Director of the Festival, says: 'Working within hospices for the last ten years, I have realised that those facing the end of life have a unique capacity to teach the living how to live. Rosetta: Live! will offer the first public platform for this experience, highlighting the value of the arts in delivering palliative care. The overwhelming response of international high profile artists offering to contribute to this event proves what a benchmark it will be in terms of arts and health practice.
