Pavlova's Dogs/My Sweet Little Fur/Love Games/A Touch of Red/All in the Grip - T1114066035

Spring 2012 sees Scottish Dance Theatre's final tour with Janet Smith as Artistic Director as she leaves to become Principal of the Northern School of Contemporary Dance. Premiering a new work, Pavlova's Dogs by Rachel Lopez de la Nieta, alongside a programme of shorter works, the spring tour celebrates the diversity of work the company has produced with Janet at the helm. SDT's new work Pavlova's Dogs by Rachel Lopez de la Nieta places the dancers on stage as test subjects. Using speech and repetition, Rachel will make you question what you see when you watch the dancers on stage. We recommend that some of the themes and language used in this work are suitable for people over age of 16. The rest of the progamme contains no less than four short works, some of which celebrate the talent within the company; All in the Grip by Natalie Trewinnard, and Love Games by Joan Cleville along with Drift, an intensely physical piece by James Wilton; and Idan Cohen's animalistic My Sweet Little Fur.

Letters from America/Lay Me Down Safe/Khaos - T0731735018

Lay Me Down Safe is a tender foray into our human inexperience at reckoning with desire and loss. A nuanced dance built for Scottish Dance Theatre’s company members, Lay Me Down Safe collides our desire to stay connected even if it hurts against our need to let go. Drawing on the individuality of each dancer and offering up a sensuous and arresting movement language, Lay Me Down Safe explores whether desire - the experience we follow like a moth to light - ultimately keeps us safe from harm, or places us right in its path. Khaos - Benjamin Levy’s new work for SDT explores a search for balance between deprivation and excess, where the human experience is nourished by the elements that sustain us, and not starved of or suffocated by them.Choreographer Kate Weare (Lay Me Down Safe). Costume Katherina Radeva (Lay Me Down Safe). Lighting Jon Clark (Lay Me Down Safe). Choreographer Benjamin Levy (Khaos).

The Life and Times of Girl A/NQR (Not Quite Right) - T909249357

The Life and Times of Girl A - A woman is trying to tell us something important about what is happening now. What she needs is a film crew and a financier, what she's got is a stage and some dancers. A piece about moments of crisis both emotional and financial, when all we need is to use less to say more. Not Quite Right - NQR is an irreverent inquiry into the idea of ‘normality’. It examines our irrepressible eccentricities that defy attempts to fit into the mould. NQR is a chance to look at and think differently about difference. It brings artists often seen as peripheral or outsider into the mainstream of contemporary dance theatre. This work is a three way collaboration co-directed by SDT Artistic Director, Janet Smith, SDT's Dance Agent for Change, Caroline Bowditch and Marc Brew, currently Associate Director Fellow with the company. Marc and Caroline also perform in the work, along with cellist and composer Robin Mason.Choreographer Ben Duke (The Life and Times of Girl A). Design Holly Waddington (The Life and Times of Girl A). Drift/In the Middle of the Moment/The Life and Times of Girl A - T08328828

Drift - Pushing the dancer’s to their physical limits, this powerful duet choreographed by James Wilton explores loneliness and closeness, absolute commitment and high risk trust. Sometimes the people we care about the most are the people we hurt the most. In the Middle of the Moment - A gorgeous duet about the physical restraints of a relationship, performed within a 3 metre square of light to hauntingly atmospheric classical music by Arvo Pärt and György Kurtág. The Life and Times of Girl A - Lost Dog’s award winning Ben Duke will bring a ‘highly theatrical and subversively humorous style’ (Metro) to create a new work for SDT. Combining dance, theatre and music their previous work has been much applauded. This piece is about a woman trying to tell us something important about what is happening now. What she needs is a film crew and a financier, what she's got is a stage and some dancers. This is a piece about moments of crisis both emotional and financial, when we all need to use less to say more.Choreographer James Wilton (Drift). Lighting Emma Jones (Drift). Daddy I'm Not Well/Grace/High Land/Inside Somewhere - T0788750152

Scottish Dance Theatre's Spring tour features four dances of which at least two will be performed. Daddy I'm Not Well - A piece partly inspired by Sophocles' Oedipus The King, Aeshylus' Oresteia and paintings by Francis Bacon. A father and son look each other in the eyes. What they see is what they know. An inheritance of remembrance, revenge, regrets and reprise is ready to be passed on again? (Not suitable for under 14 years of age). Grace sifts through the deposits of second-hand learning and experience, acquired almost imperceptibly through ones life. Pondering a riddle: does borrowed adornment remove us from direct conversation with our 'true self', and is prospecting the recovery of this 'core self' attainable? High Land - You arrive in another country: Imposing landscape, a foreign language...your own. High Land takes a sometime irreverent walk through the highways and byways of a national heritage in pursuit of the spirit culture. Inside Somewhere - an exploration of feelings evoked by Chagall's paintings.Choreographer Jan De Schynkel (Daddy I'm Not Well). Choreographer Errol White (Grace). Choreographer Janet Smith (High Land). Choreographer Sean Feldman (Inside Somewhere).
