Inspired by the writings of Luigi Pirandello, Lydia Ariken creates a new series examining the artifice and the human make-up of the lives led by some and not others. Between public and private, real and unreal 'Scratching the Surface' explores the responses and behaviour a character may display in order to survive its own reality. The hidden parts of ourselves are manifested in others. Are the characters around us projections of the secret bits of our hidden selves?
