Table of Contents - T01405107044

Table of Contents is a live performance and installation co-created by Siobhan Davies. Using her own history as a choreographer and dancer as a starting point, this new project reflects on the concept of archiving dance. Working closely with five collaborating dance artists Andrea Buckley, Helka Kaski, Rachel Krische, Charlie Morrissey and Matthias Sperling the artists consider their own embodied history and memory. When seen in a gallery context the work questions how different art forms build on their own history. How does a potentially ephemeral art form create a lasting presence and how is embodied movement passed on, captured or remembered? In a work that consciously breaks barriers between audience and performer Davies and her collaborators engage audiences in a kind of live encounter or exchange, a learning process between both parties. The audience intermingle with dancers and the work intentionally shows process, unravelling dance and choreographic thinking in the proximity that a gallery space allows.

Two Quartets - T01384523470

Two Quartets, featuring eight of the UK's finest dance artists. Two Quartets is a production in two parts, each with an individual personality but with clear connections between them. In the first half of the evening, four dancers evolve as separate characters using movement developed through a study of emotions. In the second part, four dancers will experience a single situation in four very different ways. This ingenious presentation has been created in collaboration with composer and musician Matteo Fargion, visual artist Sam Collins, and one of the UK's most exciting young fashion designers, Jonathan Saunders. Davies' complex and detailed choreography combines with her collaborators distinct use of their own arts - together they produce an absorbing piece of dance theatre.

Bird Song/White Man Sleeps - T0369278404

Her latest work Bird Song is a visually arresting collaboration with artist David Ward. First seen last year at the Linbury Studio, Davies has now re-worked the piece for a larger stage, using incredible fields of light projected above and behind the dancers. Dramatically veering from high energy frenetic dance to a beautifully meditative solo, the work is set to Andy Pink’s compelling sound score which resonates with the song of the Pied Butcher bird. White Man Sleeps, set to Kevin Volans’ live score of the same name, is SDDC’s signature work. A contemporary classic, this is SDDC’s first revival of the piece since 1997.
