Sleeping Beauty is the much-loved tale of a cursed princess doomed to sleep for one hundred years. However, the enchantment is finally broken with an handsome prince awakens when with a kiss. The Kirov's five week season at the Royal Opera House opens with The Sleeping Beauty, Petipa's classical ballet which was first performed at the Kirov's Mariinsky Theatre in 1890. The forgotten fairy Carabosse gives Princess Aurora the curse of death at her christening but the Lilac Fairy is able to transform to spell into a hundred years of sleep.
