Sadler's Wells is proud to present artist David Michalek’s magnificent moving-image installation Slow Dancing, which will be shown as part of The T-Mobile Big Dance in Trafalgar Square and Village Underground in Shoreditch. In this series of larger-than-life, hyper-slow motion video portraits, 50 dancers and choreographers from around the world were individually shot on a specially constructed set using a high-speed, high-definition camera recording at 1,000 frames per second. Each short movement phrase is played back in approximately 10 minutes of extreme slow motion, which enables the viewer to share privileged information about the complexity of the simplest gestures, catching details that would normally escape the naked eye. The list of participants in this unique installation reads like a who's who of dance talent, including Wendy Whelan, Shantala Shivalingappa, Judith Jamison, William Forsythe, Sidi Larbi Cherkaoui and Alexei Ratmansky.
