Kathakbox
Sonia Sabri Company is acclaimed for creating exciting dance productions which challenge perceptions of Indian dance. Kathakbox, continues this journey by expressing the unique and diverse energy of modern Britain through a brand new dance style: Urban Kathak. Urban Kathak explores the links between the dynamic Indian dance, Kathak and the beats and rhythms of hip-hop culture. We often think of these different genres as different ‘boxes’ for different ages and cultures, but what lies ‘outside the box’? A company of technically diverse dancers and musicians find out by exploring and collaborating through street, contemporary and Indian dance, beatbox, spoken word and tablavox rhythms. Kathakbox encourages us to ‘think outside the box’ and reflects the diverse, intersecting rhythms of the human experience. Kathakbox features Sonia Sabri performing alongside three dancers, tabla maestro Sarvar Sabri, acclaimed spoken word artist Zena Edwards and beatboxer Shan Bansil. Recommended for ages 7-adult.
