A brand new mixed bill of Kathak dance from acclaimed dancer-choreographer Sonia Sabri
Parallels continues her quest to reinvent the classical North Indian dance style of Kathak with contemporary relevance. Three fresh solos use contemporary Kathak to explore the self and the urban landscape:
Neon Dream, Shobana Jeyasingh,
Spill, choreographed by Sonia as a commission for the Place Prize 2006, and
Trail, by cross-disciplinary choreographer Lisa Torun. Sonia then returns to the roots of the form, presenting her personal style of classical Kathak with live music. Precise footwork, rapid turns, complex rhythms, intricate gesture and playful improvisation between dancer and musicians build to a heart-pounding rhythmic crescendo.
