State of Emergency: Desert Crossings takes us on a journey of discovery, building bridges between two continents, tracing shared memories and the earth's history, revealing timeless stories, universal hopes and dreams of a better world. This cross-cultural performance is a collaboration between UK based producers, State of Emergency and South African choreographer Gregory Maqoma of Vuyani Dance Theatre, performed by a company of five dancers from different cultural backgrounds, with an original score by Steve Marshall.

Leading Black British choreographers Jeanefer Jean-Charles, Kwesi Johnson and Colin Poole have created three pieces of dance theatre that put male relationships under the microscope, exploring role models and exposing male perspectives on life. From the street to the home, from the emotional bond between father and son to the solidarity of friends hanging out, five stunning male dancers present a snapshot of young men in the 21st Century. The Mission 2007 hits the road with missionary zeal to celebrate the work of Black choreographers and dancers at their finest. The show features the work of four female choreographers (Menelva Harry, Jeanefer Jean Charles, Louise Katerega and Zeze Kolstad) with brand new pieces; a variety of stylistic flavours exploring heritage and thoughts and reflections on being female. Join us for an evening of breath taking dance entertainment drawing on Contemporary, Jazz, Street and Brazilian dance and martial arts. Also featuring East London Dance Youth Company in a work created with Jeanefer Jean Charles.
