Of Riders and Running Horses - T1390665426Night. We find a space in the margins of the city in which to gather: to start an ad hoc ceremony, to stamp our feet and shake our limbs, to dance in the face of an ending. Of Riders and Running Horses is a stirring and visceral new dance event by Still House created as a communal animation of urban spaces. Six female dancers and a live band conjure a new kind of old dance, an insistent rhythm, a joyful step into what it means to move together. The music is a rider and we are running horses. Of Riders and Running Horses - T0679093214Performed at night on a rooftop in London, Of Riders and Running Horses draws us into an exhilarating and visceral ad hoc ceremony. It conjures up a new kind of old dance to animate city spaces. Created by Still House for six female dancers and a live band, the performers dance to an insistent rhythm, reminding us of the exhilarating power that comes from moving together. Bristol based theatre-maker and choreographer Dan Canham has been co-commissioned by Dance Umbrella to create Of Riders and Running Horses. Influenced by film, theatre, music and dance, what lies at the heart of Dan's work is a sense of refreshing authenticity, and a visually poetic exploration into the collective imagination of performers and audiences. The music, composed and played live by Luke Harney (AKA Typesun) and Sam Halmarack, was created in the rehearsal room both inspiring, and being inspired by, the choreography.Presented byDance Umbrella (in partnership with The Place). Ours Was the Fen Country - T01391426779Ours was the Fen Country takes as its inspiration, the stark and beautiful landscape of The Fens in East Anglia. Over two years, Canham made a series of field recordings of those living and working in the fens, including eel-catchers, farmers, parish councillors, museum keepers, molly dancers and conservationists. These recordings form the basis for this new dance-theatre show, which is touring the UK this spring. Canham and his company take the words of Fenlanders and transform them through sound and move?ment into a moving piece which gets to the heart of this mysterious expanse of flat land.Producer MAYK. Ours Was the Fen Country - T383114185For the past two years Dan Canham has been capturing conversations with people of the fens in East Anglia. In this ethereal piece of documentary dance-theatre, Dan and his team fuse movement and sound with the words and memories of their native collaborators to get to the heart of this beautiful, bleak and mysterious expanse of flat land and dig up universal stories of rural communities fading from view.Producer MAYK. | |
