William Forsythe is recognised as one of the world's foremost contemporary choreographers. His work is best known for reorientating the practice of ballet from its identification with classical repertoire to a dynamic 21st century art form. William Forsythe is renowned for his radical imagination, combining choreographic invention with a distinct theatrical vision. He stretches the expectations of what dance and, in particular, ballet can be, always pursuing new, unique and unconventional projects. For Three Atmospheric Studies, Forsythe has taken as his subject the imagery and fallout from the ongoing conflict in Iraq. Forsythe’s choreography always arouses high levels of expectation. This, the new version of his first work after forming The Forsythe Company in 2005, is no exception. Three Atmospheric Studies takes audiences to the precipice of challenging theatre and leaves them with a vision of the world that is at once shattering and revelatory.
