Production details

The line-up will include Laura Laura (immigrants and animals), Heart piece (Anna Torkkel FI) and new commissioned work 30 Skanks by Zinzi Minott (UK). immigrants and animals work between London and Helsinki, two cities in countries that both sit at the edge of Europe and are estranged from the mainland in different ways. This event is a celebration of our baselessness, a performance night that is both cultural exchange and interference. Laura Laura is part of a continual investigation into how we can present our different female bodies with agency on stage and why we might choose to parade ourselves in-front of a public in the first place. It's kind of like watching somebody else masturbate - either you get off on it, or you don't. immigrants and animals is fronted by Jamila Johnson-Small and Mira Kautto. We make dances about the stuff we like and things we find weird, and the politics and perversities of this. Heart piece is Anna's a solo work on heart. Instead of presenting a certain claim or posing a question the piece aims to open a door for simplicity and give an opportunity to a more experiential connection between the performer and the audience. Anna Torkkel is a dance artist and founder of performance art collective Ehk?-production, member of Beta-collective and curator of Kutomo (Turku, Finland). 30 Skanks will consider the movement language that was created alongside Reggae as it's own political language. Zinzi Minott is a London-based dancer, dance artist and choreographer, her work explores the use of repetition and exhaustion to illustrate identity and culture, and the strength and burdens of both.
