Details

The Place marks the conclusion of the two-decade tenure of Theatre Director John Ashford with The Turning World - a season of international dance. Ashford, who has been responsible for the progamme at Britain’s busiest dance venue since 1986, created The Turning World in 1990 to provide London audiences with an opportunity to see dance companies from around the world who were then relatively unknown in Britain. The season featured groundbreaking work from artists including Alain Platel, Anne Teresa de Keersmaeker, Wim Vandekeybus, Meryl Tankard, Rui Horta and Sasha Waltz in the days before they enjoyed international acclaim. Originally conceived to ‘dance to the edge of an millenium’, The Turning World ran for ten years until 1999, and was then revived in 2007 as a renewed response to the work created beyond the UK’s borders which remains otherwise unseen in London.
