Sixty years on from the Festival of Britain, our sense of identity is informed not only by our own cultural traditions but also by connections with cultures across the world. These Lands Are Your Lands is a weekend-long celebration of traditional music, dance and ceremony from Britain and beyond. Members of Southbank Centre Artists in Residence Bellowhead and their guests pay tribute to the Singing Englishmen folk concert from the 1951 Festival of Britain. Other highlights include Portuguese fado superstar Mariza, new Real World signings Syriana, and a triple bill of UK-based bands exploring Balkan, Gypsy and Jewish music afresh, while Hetain Patel explores with humour what being British means today in a contemporary take on the Indian rhythm cycle of ten. The Magpie's Nest-curated Cultura Obscura programme fills every corner of the site with folk customs and culture, including lots of opportunities to join in. To mirror the immortal words of Woody Guthrie, 'this land was made for you and me'.
