Regina

Regina is a new piece of dance theatre, which explores the life of Queen Elizabeth I. The performance fuses dance text and video to create a theatrical portrait of this iconic monarch. A powerful woman ruling in a man’s world; an aging queen famed for her striking looks; a monarch dying without an heir to continue her legacy: Regina examines the tensions inherent in Elizabeth as both an icon and individual. For Regina, award-winning choreographer Tom Sapsford (Royal Ballet, Michael Clark) has collaborated with cutting edge computer artists KMA and designer Stevie Stewart (Bodymap, Kylie Minogue) to realise the rich imagery of Elizabeth’s world. Regina is funded by Arts Council England’s Grants for the arts programme, takeart, ICIA Bath, and the Merlin Theatre, Frome. Presented as part of Glasgay! Scotland’s annual celebration of queer culture Glasgay! Tramway 1
