Triple Bill - T01752917823

VERVE Artistic Director Matteo Marfoglia's debut creation for the company 'A Field of Beauty' is a visually stunning and virtuosic work celebrating individuality, uniqueness and freedom of expression. Los Angeles-born, Berlin-based choreographer Joy Alpuerto Ritter has crafted a character-driven work exploring the intricate dynamics of family relationships, questioning what lies beneath the surface of a family portrait. Rounding off the triple bill, acclaimed French collective (LA)HORDE present a restaging of People used to die - originally created for the Montreal School of Contemporary Dance in 2014. Taking inspiration from the European movement 'Jumpstyle', the work is an explosive and unrelenting test of physical endurance for the dancers.Choreographer Matteo Marfoglia (A Field of Beauty). Birds are the inspiration for Lenka Vagnerovs's Riders (Winner of Dance Piece of the Year, Czech Dance Platform 2013), which has been reworked especially for the company. Fourteen dancers take on bird-like behaviour and movement in a work that captures the raw power of the natural world. NEVERSINK, created by Artistic Director Matthew Robinson, is a physically poetic and vivid reminder to embrace transformation and Hannes Langolf has worked with the dancers to create wolf, an athletic piece that explores pretence and bravado through body language and spoken word. Completing the diverse repertoire this year is NOBODY 'CEPT YOU by Sita Ostheimer, which delves into emotional worlds, layering rhythm, sound and light to explore longing and desire.Choreographer Hannes Langolf (Germany). Choreographer Sita Ostheimer (Germany). Choreographer Lenka Vagnerova (Czech Republic). Choreographer Matthew Robinson (UK).

2017: Rita/Continuum/Soft Power Generator/A Fable of Our Time - T1256138941

VERVE presents an exhilarating programme of four distinct dance works choreographed by international artists James Cousins, Carlos Pons Guerra, Leila McMillan and Matthias Sperling. Performed by a company of eleven dancers who trained at some of the world's leading conservatoires, the work is physically daring and thought provoking. Carlos Pons Guerra's Rita is a raucous, full company work inspired by the vestal world of nunneries. What happens when our innate desires are denied expression? Leila McMillan tackles the continuous cycle of destruction and repair that characterises our lives, tapping into the visceral physicality of the dancers with her work Continuum. Hypnotic and ambiguous, Matthias Sperling's Soft Power Generator asks: What if movement can generate our future? What future do we need? Finally James Cousins' A fable of our time, explores the physical and metaphorical borders societies continue to build. With full bodied physicality and intimate duets, the dancers question our precarious dualistic existence.
