This event is part of a new series of talks opening a space for debate about why dance matters today and how it relates to an expanding creative field. New names in dance and performance invite leading creative voices to join them in conversation. For the first two events, artist Gillie Kleiman and choreographer and performer Matthias Sperling each curate one talk with an artist they admire. Choreographer Matthias Sperling invites visual artist Marcus Coates to have a conversation exploring Sperling's curiosity about Coates' practice and the areas where their interests overlap. Among other points of contact, they will discuss Coates' recent book 'UR... A Practical Guide To Unconscious Reasoning' and how it connects with Sperling's interest in including the intelligent unconscious of the body in his approach to choreographic practice.
