For the fourth time, the Programme presents an informal week of events and performances designed to introduce the public to the new members of the Vilar Young Artists Programme, while also giving them a chance to hear again those who joined a year ago. Hightlights wil include Diary of Poems - a full staging by Andre Heller-Lopes of two song cycles: Debussy's Cinque poemes de Charles Baudelaire sung by James Edwards, followed by Janacek's The Diary of One Who Disappeared sung by Andrew Kennedy and Liora Grodnikaite, accompanied by David Gowland.

This Open Week will offer a series of recitals, masterclasses and discussions designed to introduce the eight people joining the Vilar Young Artists Programme in September 2002 to the public: sopranos [Ha Young Lee] and [Ailish Tynan], mezzo sopranos [Tove Dahlberg] and [Ekaterina Gubanova], tenor [Hubert Francis], repetiteur [Adrian Kelly], stage director [Tomasz Konina] and conductor [Yuval Zorn]. The five singers currently on the Programme - sopranos [Gweneth-Ann Jeffers] and [Sally Matthews], tenor [Edgaras Montvidas], baritone [Grant Doyle] and bass-baritone [Darren Jeffery] - will also take part.

Sopranos [Gweneth-Ann Jeffers] and [Sally Matthews], tenors [Alfred Boe] and [Edgaras Montvidas], baritone [Grant Doyle] and bass-baritone [Darren Jeffery] are the first six singers on the Vilar Young Artists Programme at the Royal Opera House. These outstanding young artists will work and train with The Royal Opera over the next two seasons and can be seen during this week in a variety of different events, including recitals and masterclasses.
