Kumi Yamashita
T0
Japanese visual artist, Kumi Yamashita, has been commissioned to create two large-scale contrasting portraits of Samuel Beckett. Kumi Yamashita shares Beckett's desire to make us question all our expectations - including the relationship between solids and their shadows, light and dark. One portrait will be produced through book pages casting a shadow of Beckett's memorable face whilst the other will take Beckett's handwriting as its medium, creating a portrait of his distinctive, angular face, which will emerge - literally, from his own writing.
