ArtsFest 99 is a three day feast of free arts and entertainment from Friday 10th - Sunday 12th September 1999. ArtsFest 99 takes place in theatres, bars, concert halls and stages throughout Broad Street, Centenary Square and Brindleyplace in Birmingham City Centre, showcasing a diverse array of arts and entertainment from the regions finest organisations. Music, drama, dance, film and visual arts are amongst some of the arts on offer throughout the weekend, demonstrated through live performances, workshops and hands-on activities. ALL events are completely FREE - simply turn up on the day and enjoy! Most performances are in half-hourly slots, giving you the chance to sample new and unusual works alongside the tried and tested. Venues this year include Ronnie Scott s, CBSO Centre, Flapper and Firkin, Fiddle and Bone, Birmingham Museum and Art Gallery, Crescent Theatre and the Ikon Gallery, as well as outdoor stages on Centenary and Chamberlain Squares. There are also activities at mac in Cannon Hill Park, with free buses from Centenary Square. ArtsFest 98 attracted over 75,000 visitors, and with a bigger and better line-up, ArtsFest 99 is confidently expected to entice over 100,000 people to "Try It!". ArtsFest will also be linking up with BBC Proms In The Park, with the Last Night Of The Proms being relayed to a giant screen in Centenary Square on the Saturday evening. Participants include the City of Birmingham Symphony Orchestra, Birmingham Royal Ballet, Royal Shakespeare Company and Playbox Theatre, plus hundreds of other regional club DJs, bands, theatre companies, dancers and filmmakers. ArtsFest 99 really is a weekend not to be missed!
