It's back! This will be the fourth edition of the biennial Bristol Festival of Puppetry and we can't wait. With shows, films and workshops for all ages, Bristol Festival of Puppetry is a great festival for the puppetry enthusiast or those new to this most versatile of artforms. Puppet Place - Bristol's internationally recognised hub for puppetry and animation - is delighted to be welcoming a host of international talent to Tobacco Factory Theatres again this year. Artists include the astonishing marionette company Theatre Tubingen from Germany and virtuoso object theatre makers Tam Tam from The Netherlands, plus the hottest puppetry talent from the UK. Plus, the Smoking Puppet Cabaret returns with an expanded programme of the weird, the wonderful and downright funny. For the first time Bristol Festival of Puppetry will spread out across the city, presenting an extended film and animation programme at The Watershed as well as pop up puppetry all around the Harbour.

In late August, Puppet Place casts its spell over the Factory and Brewery Theatres once again with a concoction of puppetry and animation to enchant, delight and provoke. This year we invite you to explore the outer reaches of the puppetry-verse. Delve into the myriad strange and twisted worlds that puppets inhabit and delight in the wonderful characters animated by some of the most consummate and skilful performers on our own doorstep and from the rest of the world. As in previous years, there will be something for everyone and all ages. Alongside the programme of shows and films, there will be an exhibition featuring some of Aardman's best known characters, the late night Smoking Puppet Cabaret and the stupendous Creatures of Southville Carnival returning to the streets to celebrate the opening of the Festival.

In partnership with the Tobacco Factory, Bristol City Council and Aardman Animations, Puppet Place is planning Bristol’s first ever festival dedicated to puppetry in all its forms, from socks to latex and street theatre to celluloid. The festival offers something for everyone, with a range of performances, workshops, films and exhibitions featuring the best of local, national and international talent. The Tobacco Factory - the hub for most Festival events - will be taken over and transformed into a Puppet Place, filled with shows, installations and events - all designed to inspire, provoke and entertain. Alongside the programmed performances, the organisers have created an accessible and interactive events programme: Film screenings Aardman Animations and Puppet Place present a programme of rare and unseen film and video from the world of puppet animation. Puppets on the Streets Festival-goers of any age can work alongside established theatre artists to design and create puppets, which may appear in shop windows, street corners, car parks or on the pavements of South Bristol... Keep your eyes peeled! Puppet Prototype Theatre Bristol and Tobacco Factory Theatre’s regular Prototype night presents a puppetry and animated theatre special. Emerging artists perform extracts of their ‘works in progress’ to audiences who are encouraged to offer valuable aftershow feedback.The P Word - a pan el discussion An opportunity to both hear and engage in lively debate with a panel of internationally regarded artists, among them an OscarTM-winning animator, who all use puppetry in their work.
