Production details

Multi award winning, critically acclaimed artist initiative Forest Fringe joins forces with BAC for a weekend of performances, installations, intimate encounters and hidden surprises in spaces throughout the Old Town Hall, showcasing the best of the artists that made the Forest Fringe brand of Edinburgh ‘08 extraordinary and offering audiences the first chance to discover plans for Edinburgh ’09. The highlights from last year’s festival include a miniature one-on-one experience from Bristol-based artists Ed Rapley, shows from Lucy Ellinson and Deborah Pearson and installations by Abigail Conway and Drink Dream Draw. Nestled amongst these are a number of new works that will be making their way up to Edinburgh in August, including a preview of brand new shows from Rotozaza and Tinned Fingers and a five-minute live cinematic experience from the acclaimed Bootworks theatre company. Audiences will be invited to feedback on the work they see and share their own ideas about how Forest Fringe should operate. Nu-jazz artists Loop Ellington will round off each evening with a set in the café bar. Now in its third year, Forest Fringe is a miniature festival within the Edinburgh festival, based in an old church hall in the heart of the city, showcasing some of the most exciting new theatre anywhere in the country. By reducing the costs to audience and artists Forest Fringe has forged a space for experimentation, adventure and play. A highlight of the Edinburgh festival season for the Guardian, The New Statesman, Scotland on Sunday and Time Out, the venue’s innovative programme last year picked up a Herald Angel Award, a Peter Brook Empty Space Special Mention, an Arches Brick Award and a nomination for a Total Theatre Award.
