In the wild untamed coast of Northumberland, a family of sisters and their menfolk gather for their mother's funeral. The usual dignity is in short supply and what unfolds is the blackly humorous and often painful, rediscovery of a mother whom none of them really respected, or even truly knew. Skeletons come tumbling out of cupboards and fond delusions are shot to pieces and it soon becomes apparent that the mother they have left behind stills runs through them, like wine through water.
