After the death of his mother a young gay man goes on a journey across the backwaters of France with the aim of finding the father he never knew. Just into his trip, he witnesses a racist attack, but his optimism is restored by the encounters he has with a variety of people who become a surrogate family and help him on a path of self-discovery.
