A landmark in the history of Indian cinema and the first Bollywood film to land an Oscar nomination. It tells the story of a mother who struggles to raise her sons, one of whom perishes in a flood, whilst another repays her sacrifices by joining up with a band of rebels. Mother India is very much a political statement - a demonstration of nation unity 10 years after independence.
