Ben, Nat and Baby is a theatre in health education programme for 14 year olds upwards. It is an interactive theatre programme on parenting and relationships exploring the responsibilities and skills young people need to become parents. The programme aims to take an honest look at the realities of being a young parent. Utilising interactive theatre Loudmouth uses drama, comedy and discussion to explore the difficulties that many young parents face and the pressures that this can place on their relationships. Ben, Nat and Baby Jack is a programme of work designed for schools and youth centres and includes a 45 minute performance, an hour long interactive workshop and a set of Teachers' Notes, designed to help teachers and youth workers follow up the company's visit. The performance follows the changing relationship of two young people, Ben, 18 and Nat, 15 and the couple's relationship from finding out the news that they are going to be parents, up until their child Jack is a toddler. During the play we see how the young couple cope with their changing lives. Both Nat and Ben talk to the audience about the way that they feel about parenthood and their changing relationship. How will they cope? The play uses humour and drama and confronts these issues in an honest and accessible way. The play explores these issues from both a male and female perspective to show how pregnancy and parenting affect both sexes. The workshop focuses on Ben and Nat's parenting skills and relationship and looks at where they could turn for advice and help. The workshop gives the young people a chance to discuss the issues as well as question the characters about being a young parent.
