The Roots of Visual Theatre: Can we ever look Tadeusz Kantor in the face? Director, writer and arts polymath David Gothard will talk about the recent history of visual theatre, looking at contemporary developments in the context of 25 years of risk-taking and ground-breaking work. David brought pioneering visual theatre to London in the 1980s when he was artistic director of Riverside Studios. Kantor's work, Miro's puppetry, Tadashi Suzuki, Samuel Beckett, Cirque Imaginaire, Mabou Mines and members of the Judson group helped launch a decade of shows, residencies and workshops at Riverside whose influence is still felt. Chair: Jonathan Holloway, Total Theatre Network.
