Samantha k (18Oct15): Went to see this production on october14 with my daughter and two grandchildren, loved it,must have seen a different show to most of these reviews,my grandchildren are 15 and 6,they both enjoyed it and had no problems with any of the scenes,I would recommend this to all ages and would love to see it again, well done to all the cast, you were amazing especially Judas. 4
victoria (07Sep15): I went to see JC Sept at venue cymru Llandudno....Glenn carter was as fabulous as he was in the same role at venue 17years ago...judas voice was erratic but he managed to pull it off...cavins voice was spot on as were all the high priests...and herod was superb! more feeling and emotion was needed from Mary magdalene and Peter in contrast and I have to mention the backing singers and extras held everything together tremendously..in contrast as brutal as the death scene was...it was necessary in maintaining the dramatic feel!! 4
USER (12May15): Saw in Woking beginning of April. Sounded like Judas had lost his voice which spilt the show a bit. It kept breaking up. Mary magdalen sang well but very wooden. Jesus was superb. Caiphus too.
pat (01May15): Sheffield 30th April - slightly disappointed particularly with lead role. All anger - no humility and lots of pantomime gestures. Costumes too left one underwhelmed. Some great singing from most of the cast .
Kat (14Apr15): amazing and realistic. Glenn Carter was fantastic as ever and the vocals from the other leads were great. Unfortunately this is what they did do to Jesus, yes it was hard to watch but it emphasised to me what Jesus went through at Calvary. My two daughters coped with it very well, the youngest being 9 and was able to relate it to the Easter story in its entirety. The resurrection is never the focus in JCS but in this occasion, the curtain call led itself to the resurrection in a smooth and flowing manner. I want to go again
Nick (13Apr15): Cont...Sorry; really hated it (watched it in Woking last night). Wanted to walk out, but being seated with friends in the middle of the row only about 6 from the stage, with a full house, meant I could have caused a scene (no pun), so had to sit and endure it... So what was wrong? First, only having seen it as a youngster (am now 42), I remembered it as a positive empowering production. This was a stark contrast, more like the musical Jesus Christ Superstar presented in the style of an extreme episode of Eastenders, directed by Quentin Tarantino. Ok, to specifics: the singing was all full of angst, with endless wailing, screaming, crying, sobbing, etc. All the way through. And at other times was just weak. (NB. Rhydian was supposed to be in it; that's why we went, but was a no-show; not that his part was very big anyway.) - though to be fair, we loved the deep voice of the High Priest. Judas then had his own scene, and the wailing and screaming continued. They stopped short of having him swinging
Nick (13Apr15): cont... Jesus was then dragged accross the stage to the cross by the soldiers, held down, and he was nailed to the cross. Sure, this is not news. We all know the story. But the chap with the club hammer banging against metal, loudly, BANG... BANG... BANG... BANG... each accompanied by Jesus screaming with all he had left, writhing around as the other guards fought to hold him down. Several minutes later (I don't know how many) they started on the other hand... I cannot tell you how uncomfortable I was. I was sweating, crying out inside (silently) for it to stop. I looked around the theatre, at anywhere but the stage, but I could not shut out the screams. They went on, and on, and on... Then they started on his feet!!!!!!! I so want to swear as writing this. This was a family show, not an 18 rated horror movie. While sitting there, almost in panic while the screaming went on, I knew I could never allow myself to be in this position again. Pantos aside, I honestly thought never going to the theatre ag

Chris Trevor-Wilson (01Apr15): Chris (March 31) I saw Jesus Christ Superstar last night in Woking and was disappointed with the varying standard of singing and clarity. Mary Magdalene was superb, as was Caiphus but Judas Iscariot shouting his was way through the performance and Jesus overacted to the point of comedy. Isaw this show three times in London in the late 1970s and it was superb...this was not. Disjointed, jerky and ended too abruptly.
Fishpie (01Apr15): Saw performance today and was impressed by the whole performance. Very professional and gripping. Judas was played by the understudy and I tho he was superb
Mary (21Mar15): I saw the production at the Derngate and was disappointed that neither Rhydian or Rachael were in the cast as advertised. I thought it was an average performance and nothing to rave about. I think they should let people know if there are dates when key players are not performing. I really wanted to see Rhydian I think he is amazing.
Elizabeth (17Mar15): I watched Jesus Christ Superstar on 14 March but was a little disappointed. There was a dark broodiness about it and very little emphasis on the resurrrection. Mary Magdelene was superb and the musicians were also very good.
