Miss SaigonThe Madam Butterfly story set in modern, war torn times (fall of Saigon 1975). An American soldier falls for a local girl, Kim, but is dragged from the country by the American evacuation and is unable to find her. She has a son and eventually escapes to Bankok where she files for immigration into the USA. Meanwhile the American soldier, distraught at first as he is unable to find her, starts to get on with his life and marries. The news that Kim is alive and has his son comes as a blow and he returns to Bankok, with his wife who now knows the story, to meet her. On finding that he is married Kim is distraught but decides that her son must have the American upbringing that she promised him - so she shoots herself. Excellent staging and effects.
