Signing up on a whaler out of Nantucket, Ishmael soon discovers that Captain Ahab has a monomaniacal obsession to destroy Moby-Dick, the monstrous white whale that tore off his leg on a previous voyage. Before long the entire crew of "mongrel renegades, castaways and cannibals" have become caught up in their captain's blood lust.
