Mahler: Song and Dance Man
T1763800708
Ever since he sung in the chorus for the Scottish premier of the composer's Eighth Symphony at the 1965 Edinburgh Festival, Mike Maran has been fascinated by Gustav Mahler. His deep knowledge of the man and his music forms the basis of his latest show, which won a coveted Herald Angel at the Edinburgh Fringe.
Song and Dance Man sets out to dispel the theory that Mahler's music is all doom and gloom, and is in fact full of life, songs and dancing. Mike paints a vivid portrait of the composer against a backdrop of 20th-century Europe, accompanied on stage by a sextet of musicians performing extracts from Mahler's works specially arranged by Karen Wimhurst.
